Easy Kids' Valentine's Day Craft Idea

Updated: Sep 1, 2019

My kids are 2 and 5 right now. I'm always on the prowl for seasonal craft ideas that work for both of them. This Valentines day craft idea is perfect for preschool and kindergarten crafts. I'm sure older kids would have fun with it, too. I actually made some pretty cute ones! This Valentines kids' craft is super easy. First you'll want to gather your supplies.

Supplies/Materials:

Bowl of Water and a rag (for easy clean up)

Paper cutter (optional)

I used 8 1/2" x 11" card stock, and cut each piece into quarters, making them 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". We're using the backs for our messages, but if you want a card that folds in half, just cut your 8 1/2" x 11" piece in half, and you'll have 2 standard sized cards. You could also make them smaller and paste them onto card sized paper, or use the whole sheet and hang it on your wall.

The size doesn't matter, but the thickness of the paper does. You want thick enough paper that it won't get shredded when you add water to it (especially if you have a toddler that will be rough with it).

Using the white crayon, write words, draw hearts or other Valentines images, or be like my toddler and put random scribbles all over the paper.

Now you're ready for the water colors. The water is what helps the color repel off the wax, so I used a bit extra water with my paints. The kids loved watching the areas stay white, even after trying SEVERAL times to color over them. We had a lot of fun and it was pretty quick without a lot of set up or clean up. I plan on incorporating this idea into other pictures and craft projects.

I'd love to see how yours turn out! Please post photos with the hashtag #Brittique and tag @BuyBrittique so I can see. I'm always looking for photos to feature and add to my website, and would love to hear any unique twists you add to this kids' valentine's day craft.
